On February, 19, 2023, students and teachers of the Faculty of History and Philology held a Day of Germanic Philology. The tradition of the annual celebration at the Department of Romance and Germanic Philology was interrupted by the pandemic, but restored now by the efforts of all four courses under the leadership of the head of the Department Lev V. Pisarev.
The celebration was held in a friendly and pleasant atmosphere. Students were happy to share their learning experience, embodied in humorous and artistic numbers. The first course presented a theatrical performance of the scene at the hippodrome from the classic film "My Fair Lady" based on the play by
George Bernard Shaw "Pygmalion". Invaluable assistance in the organization and staging of the play was provided by Anastasiia M. Trofimova, a teacher of the Department of Romance and Germanic Philology, who also took part in the performance as a "Translator from English into Russian".
The third year students performed several songs, including Praise of the Blessed Virgin Mary in English and Georgian, as well as the classic song "Moon River" in English and the composition "Proud Corazon" in German from the Oscar-winning animated film "Coco" (2017).
Fourth-year students gave humorous performances in which they warmly recalled the years of study left behind. In particular, humorous video of various types of students who studied distantly during the pandemic years were presented.
A touching and very symbolic ending of the creative part of the holiday was the song "We'll meet again", performed by the first and fourth year students – the youngest students and those who have a thesis defense not far off. The entire auditorium joined in the final song.
Then a quiz about Germany, conducted by senior teacher Yulia V. Romanchenko, took place, in which all the guests took part with pleasure. After the announcement of the winners, the participants continued to share their impressions over a tea party arranged by the head of the Department.
The Department expresses great gratitude for the organization, coordination and holding of the holiday to the 4th-year student Ekaterina Dolzhenkova, who invariably participates in all important events.
