Screening of Film about Romanian Priest in the Conciliar Chamber of STOU’s Main Building with Metropolitan Nikoloz of Akhalkalaki, Kumurdo and Kars

On May 25, 2023, on the Feast of Ascension, in the Conciliar Chamber of the historic Moscow Diocesan House, STOU’s main building, Metropolitan Nikoloz of Akhalkalaki, Kumurdo and Kars presented a documentary film “The Seven Words of Father Georghe Calciu”, dedicated to the life of the eponymous Romanian priest, an Orthodox ascetic, confessor of the faith, and an outstanding preacher of the truth of Christ. The film has Russian subtitles prepared by K. A. Chernorizov, a graduate of the Faculty of Continuing Education, at the initiative of Metropolitan Nikoloz.

Archpriest Gheorghe Calciu-Dumitriasa (1925–2006), who suffered imprisonment for preaching Christ during the years of atheist rule in Romania, is a vivid example of true martyrdom, Christian spiritual exploits, love of God and neighbor.

The event was attended by STOU Rector Archpriest Vladimir Vorobiov; Archpriest Nikolai Balashov, Adviser to the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia; and professors, students, and guests of the University. After Metropolitan Nikoloz’ opening remarks and the film screening, there was a discussion on issues of church life, including the themes of confession, fidelity to the Orthodox tradition in a hostile environment, and the glorification of saints.
