The “Epoch in Miniature” festival was launched in 2018 as a project initiated by Saint Tikhon’s Orthodox University of the Humanities (Moscow) and the Biblioteca Ambrosiana (Milan), with support from the Moscow office of UBI Bank.
In 2018, together with the Russian State Library (Moscow), the organizers presented an exhibition titled “An Epoch in Miniature: Antique Heritage in Renaissance Miniatures”. The exhibition gave viewers a unique opportunity to examine the handwritten books of the Italian Renaissance now kept in the famous Biblioteca Ambrosiana in great detail, as well as to see real handwritten books from the Rumiantsev Collection (Russian State Library) that are related to same period.
Since 2018, the Festival has been held annually at 6 Likhov Lane in the historic building known in the early 20th century as the Moscow Eparchy House, now the main building of Saint Tikhon’s Orthodox University of the Humanities. The event, with a duration of one week, features cultural initiatives in various formats: an exhibition of ancient manuscripts from the collection of the Biblioteca Ambrosiana, educational exhibitions, popular lectures, academic conferences, and concerts in the Conciliar Chamber.
